WHAT?.....WHAT????

Grandpa goes up to the counter at the Walmart Tire & Lube and waits his turn in line. Annoying, bratty grandson climbs around in the neat stacks of tires.

This is not a skinny child, yet, not what you'd call fat either. Let's just say he hasn't ever gone hungry.

Grandpa is either too old to care or just fed up with dealing with the kid. He looks at his grandson, and since telling him to STOP earlier obviously had no affect. Turns again to the monster child and says...

If you get stuck in there I'm not getting you out!

Yeah, that ought to make a difference...

Grandpa takes care of his business at the counter and starts to walk away. There is no "come on Billy, let's go", not so much a look back at the kid to see if in fact he truly was stuck in the tires or if tireboy was aware that grandfather was leaving.

It's not long however, and tireboy is bounding after grandpa. The rest goes something like this:

Boy: Grandpa! Your phone is ringing!

(Grandpa keeps walking)

Boy: GRANDPA! YOUR PHONE IS RINGING!

(Grandpa ... again more walking)

The boy races ahead of his grandpa to get in front of him...

Boy: GRANDPA! YOUR PHONE!

Grandpa: *appearing annoyed that the boy has not only gotten in his way but was now yelling something at him* WHAT!

Boy: YOUR PHONE!

Grandpa: Hmmmph! WHAT?

Boy: IT'S RINGING!

Grandpa: hmmmph...

Grandpa reaches into his pocket and fumbles for the phone, which by the way was STILL ringing! (My phone would have been in voicemail 4 rings ago.) However ... He flips the phone open, almost gets it to his ear, mumbles something and shoves the phone at the grandchild with more mumbling about the child doing the talking.

~~~~~~~~~
This was most certainly a lot funnier "in person" than it is here in print ... but I couldn't help it. I had to at least attempt to share this little tidbit.
The technological age really has us by the "you-know-whats" if we have to have a cell phone regardless of whether we can hear it ringing OR hear the person on the other end.
